Red Cross helping family get back on its feet | Community Spirit

The Kern Chapter Disaster Action Team was called into action Monday night, helping a family affected by fire on Monache Drive.

The family was given food, clothing, shelter, comfort kits, water and referrals. This is the 35th fire call the chapter responded to this year with a total of nearly 200 people receiving Kern Chapter Red Cross assistance.

The Red Cross, 5035 Gilmore Ave., in northwest Bakersfield, has these tips to help:

• Prevent fires, by taking action to reduce your risk.
• Donate. You can help your neighbors recover by making tax-deductible donations to the Kern Chapter.
• Volunteer. You can become a Red Cross disaster responder. Contact the Kern Chapter to find out about training.
