Two people are dead following a deadly crash involving a Kern County Sheriff's Deputy. It happened in Oildale on Diane Drive and Norris Road.

Witnesses tell Eyewitness News that a sheriff's deputy was traveling at a high-rate of speed, without his sirens on, when the two victims were struck.

The victims were identified as 24-year-old Daniel Hiler and 30-year-old Chrystal Jolley, who also goes by the last name Clevenger.

"He was going like 60 down the road when he hit those people," witness Sherry Bowden said through tears.

"As high as the Cope's sign is, that's how high one of the bodies flew then it hit the ground," witness Ryan Copeland said.

California Highway Patrol officers on the scene said the two were walking a small motorcycle across the street when the crash happened.

"From what we think, he was in route to a call," CHP Sgt. Kennt Hagerman said.

Less than 24 hours after the crash, a makeshift memorial was set up for the victims at the scene. Family members are shocked by what happened.

"He would do anything for his family. He would take a grenade for his family. I loved him with all my heart," Hiler's sister Rayli Mitchell said.

"(The family) is doing terrible, but physically they are handling it pretty good for loosing someone so close," Jolley's cousin Richie Lewis said.

CHP's Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team, or MAIT, is investigating the crash. Officials say it could take months before that investigation is complete.

Jolley leaves behind three children, and Hiler leaves behind a wife and two children.
